DTEK has established a company to develop electricity distribution and supply businesses – DTEK Grids. Its task will be to prepare the group's power distribution and supply companies to work under new market conditions and to further improve asset performance: upgrade grids and equipment, create a common retail brand for sales, and implement client services.
DTEK Grids will coordinate the work of DTEK Kyiv Electric Grids, DTEK Dneprooblenergo, DTEK Donetskoblenergo, and DTEK HV Grids.
The Law on the Electricity Market stipulates that by the end of 2018, the business of electricity distribution should be unbundled from the electricity supply and generation businesses. DTEK Grids' task is to develop common operational standards for upgraded grid companies to enable them to be competitive and efficient under new market conditions. The first priority is to upgrade electric grid equipment with the use of smart technology in order to improve the reliability of the power supply.
The second priority is to create a common retail brand for electricity supply to consumers and to develop high-quality client services for the transition period in compliance with the requirements of the Law on the Electricity Market.
"Our goal is to do away with the current perception of regional energy companies. Electric grids will be separated off into a special business and will form a reliable basis for the growth of the country's economy and the implementation of innovations: the development of opportunities for electric vehicles, distributed generation, and smart grids. Electricity supply must become a convenient, affordable service that meets modern customers' needs. The division of regional energy companies' businesses into distribution and supply companies is part of the power market reform that will make it possible for Ukraine to become a full-fledged part of the European power system, and will thus bring positive changes to Ukrainians in terms of the quality of power services," said Maxim Timchenko, the CEO of DTEK.
